LATEST MATCH REPORT: MENS 1ST XI

Mens 1sts VS Hamble: 11/11/06

Saturday 11th November saw Wanderers 1st XI men travel to Southampton to face a Hamble side who, despite scoring a reasonable number of goals so far have failed to convert those to victories.

Hamble came out of the blocks with a good level of aggression and energy, and proceeded to keep a sleepy South-London team on the ropes for a good 15 minutes. A goal down and familiar looks on the faces of the Wanderers players told the capacity crowd that a come back was on the cards. Eventually. Some good inter-play down the right flank showed promise, but Hamble's enthusiasm kept coming, and brute force saw the first half play out to 2-1.

Some clear direction and comments from the stand-in Captain at half time were exactly what Wanderers needed despite another first five minutes of the second half under pressure again. The ball pace quickened and the typical London flair and creativity began to bring Jan Van Heel into the game in front of goal. From that point on it was only a matter of time. A flurry of goals ensued, shared out in good measure between the forwards and midfielders. Paul Tapp stepping up to even the tally for the defence, followed by JVH, Schwarz, Litchfield & Boydon.

6-1 the final score. Job done.

DoD: Schwarz "You appear to be indicting a free hit to the opposition Mr. Umpire..."
