LATEST MATCH REPORT: LADIES 1ST XI

Ladies 1sts VS Farnham

We all knew it would be a tough game, so the ladies 1's were well prepared, focussed and ready to go. An early meet, positive team talks, motivational wise words of wisdom from the skipper... oh sorry no - from all but skipper - where was betty??

Brighton - where else would you be for an away match at Farnham early doors on a Saturday morning?!? Having introduced the rule of 'if you are late you are benching it' we were delighted to see Betty grace the pitch with her presence a whole 15 minutes before push back, appropriately dressed in last nights little number, with knee highs to match.

I could not have been more delighted at the show, as the squad set off on their warm up - betty was greeted with a round of applause.. Thank god it was her that is all I can say - anyone else would have been banished to the Wayfarers for life..

We knew it would be a tough game and having slipped into second in the league the previous week, we knew Farnham would be fighting for points. What we didnt realise was that the two umpires doubled up as additional forwards for the opposition and despite puseys attempt at feeling one of them up (I know - not exactly her normal type but there was no stopping her this week!!) we struggled with the decisions throughout the game.

Some great played saw Pu deflect a fantastic ball in from someone (sorry guys - clearly i was focussing too much on my game) giving us an early lead but Farnham equalised shortly after with one of their many short corners that followed (mm ground hog day sorry what ref!!!)

We battled on hard (I think the pitch must have been bigger, longer and wider this week - and possibly up hill both ways?!?) and some great play down the right from Mackay and Gimber saw Pole dancing Emma pass the keeper for goal number two.

The last five minutes saw a never ending run of decisions go against us, corner after corner after corner. But some great defending from the mighty wanderers and Michelle saw a final clearance which the ref had to begrudgingly acknowledge - signalling the end of the game.

A great win, three points and do i hear that 'We are top of the league - i said we are top of the league?!'

Oh yes, Trojans drew with Spencer - gutted for you guys, keep battling it out for 2nd and 3rd...
