SPARKLY SIXES MATCH REPORT: SEASON 09/10
Saturday 16th January
Wanderer’s v Wayfarers
---------------------------------------
Who would have thought we’d be playing three days after another load of snow? Not us….so… after a few motivational and bantering emails on the Friday and getting rid of that sinking feeling that we really hadn’t done enough exercise for four weeks, we took ourselves to Kennington Park. It was the first time in a while we’d played there and luckily the snow hadn’t caused any extra potholes in the pitch. We warmed up with a good team spirit despite the rain and wind howling around us!
Considering we hadn’t played hockey for about a month we were all in good spirits and the game got off to a positive start. There were a few panic passes initially but once we found our mojo again there was some great attacking play up the wings and some beautiful champagne hockey passes! It was great to see Flops again and big thanks to her for all the support from the sidelines. With a large squad we had a good opportunity to roll subs to keep legs fresh.
So Gilo scored in the first half which kept the momentum going but the half time talk, Haribo and oranges were definitely very welcome. We started positively in the second half but Wayfarers squeezed a goal in to equalise, so we had to dig deep to come back at them. There was some great simple passing from the backs up to the mids and a few close calls for goals – you could hear a lot of “ooohs” and “eeeehs” whenever we were near!
It’s always quite difficult to know who’s scored from the back but I’m assured that Coops scored the winning goal in the last five minutes of the game. Awesome!
A fair result that we definitely deserved. Go sexy Sixes!
