LATEST MATCH REPORT: LADIES 6TH XI - SEASON 09/10
---------------------------------------
‘9.45am meet – PROMPT,’ that went well, although Ris and captain Gilo were a few minutes late by some watches. Apparently Ris was paying for the pitch! ‘Sunny with cloud, approx. 17 degrees,’ wasn’t quite accurate either, it was more of a, ‘Gentle breeze with a high cloud coverage,’ to be more precise.
With a great dynamic warm up in the park, although we didn’t look quite as professional as the group of young girlies looking very lady-like in the pagoda. Going into this match, we had our heads held high after two very convincing wins, a pre-match chat from Simple and all the extra support from our injured players; Simmo and Sal, Benoir umpiring and friends and families present. There was just one ‘thing’ that sadly got in the way, the umpire – didn’t she win DotD?
With Wayfarers on their toes and on the ball as soon as play started we had to get our hockey back to basics; looking for the easy pass.
By half time we were down 1-0, but had an encouraging team talk from Gilo and Bobby Dave, oranges from Harvs and a few changes on the pitch. Excellent play from defence, up to midfields and forwards and finished off in the back of the net by Steph - that’s just what we needed. Second half we were looking for those easy balls, passing to our players and taking more control of the play.
Then came that magic moment – Ladz and the umpire... Whistle blown, time stopped, need it be explained? Ris already fuming from so many calls made against us, often so no reason and so many calls not made against Wayfarers. It all ended with a short corner, who knows why, to Wayfarers where they were lucky to score. Final score 2-1 to Wayfarers, but our heads are still held high and we are looking for our next win and another score from Steph.
