SPARKLY SIXES MATCH REPORT: SEASON 09/10
Saturday 13th March
Wanderers Ladies 6's vs Croyden L2's
---------------------------------------
What a gorgeous, sunny morning to have a big match, on our home ground and thankfully starting at a fairly reasonable hour of the day! Another large, enthusiastic Ladies 6’s squad turned up for the 10.15 meet and warm up (nearly everyone, Ris…) and off we set with our goalie in tow – that’s two weeks in a row Dom has participated in the warm up, keep up the great effort!
With a fantastic match the week before, we were ready for another game of ‘sparkly, champagne’ hockey and wanted to show Croydon what we were made of. It was quite a few players’ last match of the season, so we were out to impress. Long legs had also managed to organise a fabtastic team of umpires, Charlie and Riggers, from the Men’s 2’s to help us secure our win – thank you for some great umpiring boys – I hear some revision had taken place the night before!
Not quite such a great start to the match, with Steph getting her face in the way of what could’ve been a brilliant goal. A nice bump to show (on her cheek!). Dom then proceeded to nearly score in her own goal by kicking the ball in the wrong direction, a bit of footsie going on. She was definitely taking a leaf out of coops’ book there!
During the first half there was some fantastic play between the deeeefence and the midfielders with careful, accurate passing. Lots of runs were being made by the forwards to create open space and the ball was finding the back of the net quite stylishly, especially when Charlie was watching Chrissy! Continued great use of the width of the pitch, helped Sally and Hawks to distribute the ball and make the passes they wanted to. Brilliant decision making and clever play by Hawks throughout the match gained her six votes for MOM.
Half time, haribo and percy pigs to feed us up, it was 2-0 and Gilo gave us yet another positive progress report. Fresh legs were put onto the pitch and the ball really didn’t go into their own half. A few arguments between players and umpires, that’s to be expected when you’re playing Croydon and the final whistle blew at 4-0. Well done to the goal scorers Steph, Chrissy and JLL.
A big thank you to Captain Gilo for umpiring for the 5’s after our match and giving up her chilli con carne, Coops yet again for fantastic tallying skills and providing the pens for voting and Ladz for being Ladz and still gaining three votes for DOD! Ris did take DOD without too much of a battle.
