Barnes
0 v 2 Wanderers 1As

Saturday 6th October saw Wanderers 1As teach Barnes how to play hockey like ladies, with a 2-0 victory securing their position at the top of the league.

The first half started well for Wanderers, with them holding the majority of possession, thanks to their superior skill and speed.

Great vision and a stalwart work rate from Lucy P throughout the first half frequently released Jo and Helen C onto a burly and well structured Barnes defence, creating a number of close chances.

After several minutes of constant pressure on the Barnes D, Wanderers were able to capitalise on a tired Barnes, with Nips overloading from defence, to be given a spectacular clear shot on goal, which upon taking a trivial deflection from a Barnes player, found the backboard.

From the first whistle of the second half Barnes came out hard, undoubtedly following a stern word from their over-zealous coach.
However, they were kept at bay by a solid defensive core, held strong by Evita and Emma. With both teams playing offensively and pushing high, Barnes were able to force some impressive saves from Becks in goal.

Nonetheless, it was wanderers who had the lucky break of the day. A vital error, by the beleaguered Barnes keeper allowed well positioned Helen C to tap the ball over the line.

With victory in Wanderers sights, all players dug deep to keep maintain their 2 goal advantage and allow Becks to keep a clean sheet.

Following a weekend off, Wanderers are hoping to maintain the impressive performances of the past two weekends and defend their position at the top of the table. They meet a strong Oxted team, currently lying in the bottom half of the table.
